Ladies Football Latest Results

Our girls teams have had a busy start to the new school year with all three school teams seeing action.

Senior

Our Senior girls have played two matches. They had a hard earned draw vs St. Nathy’s Ballaghaderreen in our first match away from home

Result: 3:9 to 3:9

Our second game game vs Carrick CS in St. Felim’s saw us go down by 9 points in a tough open game of football where the score didn’t reflect how close the game was but the best team on the day won.

Score: 2:8 to 5:8

That leaves us needing to win our last two games vs Ursuline, Sligo on Monday 17th October in St. Felim’s and our final game vs Abbey CS, Boyle. This is quite possible if we have a full panel to pick from and that would see us qualify from the group, most likely but depends on other results.

Junior

Our junior girls have had two games to date and they recorded victories in both matches.

We played St. Joseph’s, Castlebar in St. Felim’s and beat them.

Score: 6:16 to 5:5

In our second game, though short a few starting players, we beat St. Mary’s , Ballina in St. Felim’s

Score: 5:15 to 2:5

We have 4 games left to play and the top 2 meet in a final. Our next game is a difficult away match vs St. Brigid’s, Tuam.

U14

Having won U14C last year our girls are playing in a higher division, this year. In our first game we played St. Clare’s, Manorhamilton in St. Felims and after a great tussle were unlucky to lose by 5 points. While St. Claire’s deserved the win our girls gave a great account of themselves.

Score: 2:8 to 5:8

We have 2 matches left vs Carrick CS and Ursuline, Sligo in our group. If we win both we will qualify from the group. Either way the girls will have blitzes ( 1st years) and challenges over the school year.

Leaving Cert Ecology Field Study

Our Leaving Cert students recently traveled to Dublin Zoo to carry out their ecology field study in Phoenix Park. The weather stayed fine, and the students had a very informative day collecting and identifying plant and animal specimens and investigating biotic and abiotic factors in the grassland ecosystem. Free time in the zoo followed, and contrary to reports, the lions had not escaped their enclosure!!

T- Test your smoke alarms weekly

O- Obvious dangers- Look for fire risks like overloaded sockets, candles and unattended appliances

Senior and Intermediate Champions

Heartiest congratulations to the Aughawillan and Sean O’Heslin’s senior men’s football teams on their recent victories in the county finals. It was a great day for Ballinamore CS also as 58 of the 62 panelists involved were past or present students. Well done to all and best of luck as both teams now fly the Leitrim flag in the Connacht championship.

Mental Health Week

(Keep an eye out – more photos to follow!)
This week (10th – 15th of October) is Mental Health Week, to raise awareness about the importance of Mental Health we carried out a theme each day, with lots of fun events each day.
Monday:

“Smile More Day” – the purpose of this day is to promote positivity around the school. Two students from TY  read out our thought for the day over the intercom and towards the end of the day different TY students handed out lollipops to every student and teacher  in the school, and hopefully put a smile on their faces.😀

Tuesday:

On Tuesday, our theme for the day was healthy eating, where some TY students and Ms. Cooney prepared a fruit promotion stand at break time, while at lunch there was a competition for the healthiest lunch box.

Wednesday:

On Wednesday, the theme for the day will be exercise. Each year will go outside from 10 to 11 to walk around the school to promote “every little helps” or “a little goes a long way”.

Thursday:
The aim of the day will be to inform students about all the help available outside of the school grounds for them e.g darkness into light and pieta house.  We will have a stand opposite the canteen with brochures offering support for Mental Health issues.
Friday:
“Walk in my shoes”.  This is a fundraiser where students get the opportunity to decorate their shoes or wear odd shoes into school.
