Educational Tours

School tour 2016 Venice, Florence, Pisa, Rome from Ballinamore Community School on Vimeo.

Educational Tours have been a feature of school life in Ballinamore since 1997.  Previous educational tours in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 & 2008 have involved trips to:

  • Normandy landing beaches and Paris
  • Rome/Sorrento
  • Paris/Brussels/Strasbourg
  • Paris/London

On each occasion groups of between 70-90 Senior Students with a proportional number of teachers have made up the travelling party.

Such tours provide students with a genuine taste of the cultures of countries already encountered in such diverse subjects as English, French, History & Geography.  Added to this  is significant experience of co-operating with a large group travelling through airports and foreign cities, practical punctuality and of course the very obvious enjoyable nature of sharing time abroad with a large number of energetic and youthful peers.

In 2010 our fourth and fifth year group travelled to Italy where we visited Sorrento and Rome.  While in Sorrento visited Naples and  enjoyed a marvellous guided tour of Pompeii which was destroyed when Vesuvius erupted in 79AD.

In Rome we visited the Vatican City where we saw the Sistine Chapel and St. Peters Bascilica.  We also explored into the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum.   During our walking tour of Rome we visited the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Narvona and the Pantheon.
