Promotional Colouring Competition

Today we gave out the outlining of the Certified Irish Angus Beef logo to our first years, student council and the learning support department in our school.

The aim of this is to promote this logo more. We have told them to show it to their parents and tell them to look out for this logo when they are purchasing their beef.

When we get them back we will judge them from each class and pick the best ones. There will be a prize for the best colouring of the logo.

Chef Sham visit to our school

On the 9th of March, Chef Sham Hanifa who owns the award winning Cottage Restaurant, Jamestown, Leitrim, visited our school to give a presentation on why Certified Irish Angus beef is superior to other beef breeds. Sham who also works with  the Food Council and Euro-toques Ireland demonstrated to 1st years and leaving certs how to cut the best pieces of meat from the carcass off an Irish Angus heifer. Sham showed the students how the fillet, rib eye and sirloin are cut.

Sham explained to everyone the importance of hanging beef to ensure maximum tenderness. Students also learned that beef sweats if left in a plastic bag or left on a work top.

As part of Niall and Johns promotion plans, Sham is putting Certified Irish Angus on his menu in the Cottage restaurant. He also plans to interlink with Home Economic students if Niall and John are successful.

Visit to Carrigallen Mart

On the 29th of February John and Niall visited their local Mart in Carrigallen, Co. Leitrim. Here the two of us met with Helen Kells mart manager and assistant manager Seamus Maguire.

We decided to go to the mart in order to find out how the Angus breed are selling in our local area and also get a brief idea of what farmers are looking for when buying the Angus breed.

We got a picture of ourselves put onto the flat screen television in the mart, for promotion of the Irish Angus producers group, ABP Group and Kepak group.

We also had photos taken with them to show their support for us in the competition.

We were very happy with how the visit went, both managers were very cooperative and offered their assistance.

Chapter B.N.I Meeting

IMG_4966On the 2nd of March, we were invited to a B.N.I meeting in the Landmark hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon. Here we did our PowerPoint presentation in front of  45 business people from Leitrim/Roscommon/Longford.

We decided to go to this event as it gave us a great platform to promote Certified Irish Angus beef to business people within our community.

We explained to them about what the competition entailed and most importantly we asked for promotion for Certified Irish Angus beef.

We handed around our Certified Irish Angus beef stickers and got a quick photo with all the delegates before the meeting.

The meeting was a great success and everyone wished us the best of luck.
