Meetings:

The School Principals are always in attendance and give a comprehensive school report.
Meetings were normally held bi-monthly, at 8 o’clock. Meetings are generally small, especially recently as the big issue of the new school building has been addressed.
There was a huge effort expended over a five year period for a new community school, this involved large public meetings , press releases, poster campaigns, lobbying politicians and meeting ministers. Success was achieved with the announcement in 2008, that there would be a new Post primary school for Ballinamore.  The Parents Association contributes significantly to the school community and are a formal link between principles/teachers and parents.

Contributions to School Community:

•        The high profile campaign for the new school buildings and sod turning ceremony
•        Consultation regarding policies and good practice, and part of ratification process
•        Have organised parenting sessions and drug awareness programmes
•        Contributed to literacy scheme by donating  grant for purchase of books
•        Involved in school cleanup process after arson attack in 2010
•        Organised  major purchase of classroom books lost in the fire
•        Extra adult support for work of teachers
•        Fund-raising initiatives
•        Positive promotion of school community

All parents are welcome to take part in the work of the Parents Association; its members are accessible to parents and are well known to the school community. The Bi-monthly meetings are advertised in advance and all parents are invited to attend. The members of the Parents Association have children attending the school. When particular initiatives are organised these are open to all parents in the area.

There are named class teachers and year heads who act as focus persons for parents with concerns regarding their children’s education or conduct, these teachers names are published in the parent information received regularly via newsletters and updates throughout the academic year.

If there are issues that parents wish to raise at a Parents Association meeting they should contact the secretary at the email address below, two weeks before the next scheduled meeting in order to have that issue noted on the agenda.
