Pella Tournament

The TY Students organised a very successful Pella Tournament in the School for 1st, 2nd & 3rd year Boys.  They set up and ran the Tournament at Lunchtime over 2/3 weeks, with the help of their Teachers Mr Nolan and Mrs Moran.  The money they raised was given to the Build a Bank Team to be reinvested in the local community.

TY Build A Bank

Our Transition Year Students set up and ran their own Bank in the School along with AIB Student Officer, Ciara McTeigue and their Business Teacher, Mrs Moran.

They visited the AIB LAB in Dublin to see the latest Banking technology, and held fundraising events throughout the year.

The money they raised from the activities was reinvested in the local community.  This year they bought a Bench and Birdhouse for Trathnona.

School Digital Champions

Well done to our School Digital Champions who recently developed and App for use in the school as part of their project. The team received certificates of participation while showcasing the project at the Power Up 2.0 festival held in DCU on Saturday 13th May.

The initiative was introduced by the dccae and Department of Education and Skills to promote and develop the use of digital skills in a way that would impact their school or local community. The program was piloted last year and due to its success, was launched again this year.
The team consisted of TY and 5th year students, who have been working together since last November. The App contains consisting of weekly events, achievements, canteen menu, school calendar.
The students also participated in a competition run by RTE to make a one minute video about their project using video creation and editing apps.

Healthy Living Week 2017

On Monday staff and students signed up to the ‘step it’ challenge with Ms Stenson. To mark the change in the new food pyramid fruit was given out at break time (fruit and veg is now the main shelf of the pyramid and we should aim to eat 5-7 portions a day) To promote calcium intake yogurt tastings along with exploring the sugar content of different types took place in home ec class. Ms Stenson was busy with PE activities throughout the week as was Ms. Cooney with food education and cookery classes. Science and biology classes participated in a workshop on sustainable living and Ms Reynolds and her English class created an exhibition to showcase work that some students, staff and the wider community got involved in for the publication of a book on ‘maternal health’ that was published by Self Help Africa this year. Ms Conveys class also created poems relating to health in English class.
Some of the lunch time activities included a staff v student basketball match and tug o’ war and student soccer and peile games. Michelle Fanning also took junior girls for some circuit  exercise classes. The weeks event concluded with a health quiz for first years. A big thank you to staff and students who helped out during the week. Check out our slideshow from the week
