Healthy Living Week 2017

On Monday staff and students signed up to the ‘step it’ challenge with Ms Stenson. To mark the change in the new food pyramid fruit was given out at break time (fruit and veg is now the main shelf of the pyramid and we should aim to eat 5-7 portions a day) To promote calcium intake yogurt tastings along with exploring the sugar content of different types took place in home ec class. Ms Stenson was busy with PE activities throughout the week as was Ms. Cooney with food education and cookery classes. Science and biology classes participated in a workshop on sustainable living and Ms Reynolds and her English class created an exhibition to showcase work that some students, staff and the wider community got involved in for the publication of a book on ‘maternal health’ that was published by Self Help Africa this year. Ms Conveys class also created poems relating to health in English class.
Some of the lunch time activities included a staff v student basketball match and tug o’ war and student soccer and peile games. Michelle Fanning also took junior girls for some circuit  exercise classes. The weeks event concluded with a health quiz for first years. A big thank you to staff and students who helped out during the week. Check out our slideshow from the week
