Interior Design Projects 2015

Second year Home Economics students completed a model of their dream bedroom and followed the design brief process as part of their interior design module covered in class. The project was also part of their Christmas assessment in home economics. Students displayed lots of creativity with their projects.

Construction Teacher Mr Nolan inspected all the projects  and two students from each class group were awarded prizes for their efforts. Congratulations to Brendan McGovern and Becky O Brien who were awarded first prize in each of their classes and runner up prizes went to Amanda Hewson and Abbi Sweeney.

Check out some of the projects below…

School Concert 2015

Last Thursday 10th and Friday 11th of December, Ballinamore Community School hosted their bi annual school Christmas Concert. A huge array of entertainment was on show with over 270 students performances. The School Concert is a truly wonderful  event with input emerging from the whole school in all areas of the show including performing, directing, music, producing, props, costume, art design, back stage and make up to name just a few.

A massive thank you to all the students, staff, parents and friends who worked hard over the last number of weeks to get the concert to stage.

The money raised will help fund the cost of extra curricular activities for the students of Ballinamore Community School.

Super Chef Competition 2015

Well done to all students who entered the Super Chef Cookery Competition (which is being organised by St. Angela’s College and The Restaurant Association of Ireland).

Students had to choose their favourite meal and modify it to make it a healthier dish. They cooked their individual dishes in Home Economics class and demonstrated a variety of skills.  Entry forms have now been sent off.  All students who entered put in a great effort so fingers crossed!

TY Visit to Irish Aid Centre

Transition Year students visited the Irish Aid Centre in Dublin as part of their development education module. The workshop began with a short presentation on the work that Irish Aid carry out in helping developing countries and then students took part in an activity which highlighted the inequalities and issues that exist in certain parts of the world through a role play based in a rural village in Africa. A short video clip showing what the reality of daily life in a typical village is like also cemented the information learned at the workshop.
