County Leitrim Library Research Workshop

Today our TY class visited Ballinamore County Library where Librarian, Mary Conefrey, Head of the local library section gave a very thorough overview of how to research and use both online and in-library resources.
Mary also helped students to find sources for their young historian of the year competition, which is on going and will be completed by April 2024. Well done all and keep up the good work. #ballinamore #leitrim #history Leitrim County Library

Senior Boys Football

Our senior boys played their Connacht C Schools quarter final last Wednesday in the Connacht Centre of Excellence against St. Joseph Secondary school Foxford. Ballinamore got off to a great start with the help of a small wind by scoring 3 points in the first 10 minutes with the 3 score coming from an excellent 45 kicked by Mark Ahern to lead by 3pts to 1.
Foxford fought back to score a goal but Ballinamore responded with some great scores from Dara Greenan and Jamie Plunkett which was then followed by an individual piece of skill which led to a goal by Colm McLoughlin. With Ballinamore on top just before the halftime whistle we conceded a goal which left the scoreline 1-6 to 2-4 in Foxfords favour.
Again at the start of the second half Ballinamore flew out of the blocks with points from Cormac Moran, Dara Greenan, and Jamie Plunkett to lead by 2 points. With 15 minutes to play and taking advantage of the strengthening wind Foxford took hold of the game and scored 2 quick goals along with a number of points in a 5 minute spell to streak ahead and this was unfortunately too much to claw back for the Ballinamore lads. They fought very hard throughout the game but finished on the losing side on a scoreline of 4-16 to 1-12.

TY Waterlands Workshop

Dr.Margaret Flaherty and Dr. Guaduneth Chico from Waterlands Peatlands Project gave an excellent presentation and workshop to our TY and 5th year agricultural science students on our peatlands blanket bogs, basin bogs and fens. Students had the opportunity to look at bogland habitats and flora and fauna of bogs and how important bogs are to our climate and sustainability.
