Students from Belmost sur Rance visit BCS

We are delighted to welcome our friends from Ensemble Scolaire Saint Michel – Belmont sur Rance back to Ballinamore CS this week as part of our French Exchange experience.
Students and their teachers started the first day off with cookery class this morning. Students in France do not have Home Economics as a subject so the students enjoyed making their own pasta bolognese from scratch and enjoyed homemade queen cakes and tea afterwards.
They then experienced PC Modelling class in the DCG room followed by a visit to the local primary school and finished their first day with a historical tour of Ballinamore
Day 2 of the exchange experience saw the TYs and some 5th years along with our friends from Ensemble Scolaire Saint Michel – Belmont sur Rance head off on a day trip to Sligo. They were lucky with weather as they visited Glencar Waterfall, Ben Bulbin Forest Trail and Rosses Point finishing off with some retail therapy in Sligo town. A great day enjoyed by all.
Day 3 of the exchange saw the french students engaging in some conversational Irish and they learned Ballaí Luimnigh. They attended an English literature class where they analysed a poem by Robert Frost.
Following on from this was a coding class and then off to engineering where they designed a plastic key chain using techniques such as drill and saw and lime cutting.
After lunch they visited the science lab and got the opportunity to disect a sheep’s heart and learn how the heart works. A game of GAA concluded the day.
Day 4 of the french exchange saw our TYs and the students from Ensemble Scolaire Saint Michel – Belmont sur Rance participate in a workshop on Farm Safety ran by Agri Aware
Following on from this students enjoyed making Chinese paper lanterns and the day concluded with a construction class where students made wooden boats. Lots of creativity from students on display today 🚜🛶㊙️
The exchange students from Ensemble Scolaire Saint Michel – Belmont sur Rance enjoyed Reptile Haven Official workshop on their final school day here at BCS.
