On Friday 27th April 2012 the Transition year students made the most of the good weather and carried out a Spring Clean at St. Felims as part of the National Spring Clean for the month of April and part of the Green Schools programme. Mr. Cunnane (TY. Coordinator), Ms. Colum and Mr. Mullen (Green Schools Coordinators) and Kay Maguire (Ballinamore Tidy Towns) also assisted in the Spring Clean at St. Felims. Well done to all involved.
The State Examiner visited the school on Wednesday 18th April to assess the Junior Cert Home Economics students in a prctical cookery exam and mark their craft project work. Well done to all the students who produced wonderful dishes and showed off their cookery skills.
Biodiversity is an important aspect of agriculture and Robert Quinn from the fifth year agricultural science class completed
an excellent poster on Biodiversity on which he was highly commended. Thanks to Mr. Doonan and Ms. Kelly on their guidance
in creating this excellent poster.
On friday 27th April the fifth year agricultural science students made the most of the good weather and carried out an experiment
on the earthworm populations in St. Felims football pitch. All students were involved and using a quadrat and washing up liquid and water
students found many earthworms. Well done to all students involved.
Congratulations to Mr Kavanagh,Mr Mullan and the girls U-14 panel on winning Connacht U- 14 title versus Carrick Community School after a high scoring game which went to extra time.
On tuesday 24th April P.J. Mc Loughlin our local Teagasc advisor came back into our fifth year agricultural science class with the soil
test results that were sent away from our sampling in March. Each students was given a results chart and PJ went down through the soil test
results with students. Students were able to see the actual results from the soil analysis and the importance of the results.
Our fifth year students who are partaking in Gaisce – The President’s Award travelled to Lough Allen Adventure centre on Friday last 20th April to undertake the the adventure section of their award. By all accounts, the experience was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Students in Ballinamore PPS will once again be taking part in the floral pride competition 2012. In preparation
for this years floral pride the fifth year agricultural science students with their agricultural science teacher Ms. Colum
propagated the geranium plants in the window boxes at St. Felims so that they could use them in them again this
year and also create more plants. Students enjoyed propagating the plants and we look forward to seeing all the new
plants in the window boxes at St. Felims.
On monday 23rd April first year students with their science teachers Ms. Colum, Mr. Geoghegan and Ms. Mc Walter took part in the
National Spring Clean at Fatima. April is National Spring Clean month and students carried out the spring clean in the grounds of Fatima.
Students also carried out a classroom Spring Clean and they cleaned and tidied out their lockers. Well done to all students involved.
This is National Spring Clean month and Ballinamore PPS will be getting involved as part of their green schools programme. Mr Mullen and Classs 3A began the spring clean on Tuesday 17th April and the other classes will be getting involved throughout the month of April.
