Ladies Football Update

All 3 teams in school have started their competitions.

Senior C

Our girls were unlucky to lose their first match to St Nathy’s, Ballaghadereen away on 25/09/2018. Leading by 4 points at half time the home side came back strong and dedpite a well taken last minute penalty by captain, Katie Mc Nulty we were on the losing end of a 4:7 to 3:13 defeat.

Scorers: Katie Mc Nulty 1:4, Siomha Quinn 1:1 , Lisa Cull 2:0, Emma Gill 0:2

In our next Senior match we played St Clarr’s, Manorhamilton in St Felim’s in a must win game.

Playing against the wind in the first half we defended superbly and found ourselves 6 points down at half time playing against a strong wind.

With a strong wind in our backs Ballinamore settled quickly but it was only in the last 10 minutes that we pulled clear to win on a rather flattering score line of 5:19 to 5:6. It must be mentioned that St Clares were short a few players and were not helped by losing Leah Fox to injury in the first half which weakened their chances. All in all it was a good day at the office and put our season back on track.

Scorers:

Megan Mc Govern 1:1, Katie Mc Nulty 0:7, Siomha Quinn 1:2, Jane Gilheaney 0:1, Lisa Cull 2:3, Emma Gill 1:3,  Becky O Brien 0:2

Our final group game is away to Coola CS, where a win is needed to keep our interest in the competition. A win would guarantee at least a play off in the group.

Junior Ladies

Our Junior Ladies have played 2 matches to date. In our first game we played St Mary’s, Ballina in St Felims. We got off to a great start and kept the momentum going until the final whistle. Final Score: 7:14 to 3:5

Scorers: Molly Murphy 0:2, Megan Mc Govern 1:1, Siomha Quinn 3:5, Caoimhe Prior 1:2, Niamh Donohue 0:1, Ella Quinn 1:0, Caoimhe Mc Dermott 1:1, Grainne Reynolds 0:1.

Captain: Grainne Prior

Our second game was played against Carrick CS on 11/10/2018 in Park Tom, Carrick.

Given the great rivalry between the two teams Ballinamore CS faced a tough task playing a Carrick CS team who had won Connacht U14B 2 years ago and who also knocked Ballinamore out in a play off last year by 6 points, also in Junior B.

The exchanges were close in the first half and 2 fortuitous Ballinamore goals along with some fine scores saw Ballinamore lead by 3:5 to 0:6 playing against the wind.

Despite having the wind in the second half Ballinamore had to work very hard to grind out a victory and only for some good score taking and resolute defending and goalkeeping was victory secured for Ballinamore.

Final score: 5:12 to 1:10

Scorers: Siomha Quinn 2:3, Megan Mc Govern 0:2, Luly Byrne 2:3, Caoimhe Mc Dermott 0:1, Niamh Donohue 0:2, Leah Smyth 1:1

Next game is on Tuesday 23rd October vs St Claire’s, Manorhamilton where the winner will top the group and face the runner up in the other group in the semi final of Junior B.

U14 C

This year we find ourselves in an all Leitrim group comprising 5 teams; Mohill CS, Carrigallen VS, Lough Allen College, St Claire’s, Manorhamilton and Ballinamore CS.

We played our first match vs Lough Allen College away on 2/10/2018.

In a very entertaining game the lead exchanged hands on many occasions until the final 12 minutes where Lough Allen finished strongly scoring 4:2 without reply.

Indeed Ballinamore were leading by a point until the late onslaught from a strong Drumkeeran team.

Ballinamore played very well for long periods in the game and have plenty to build on for their next game vs Mohill CS which will take place on Friday 19th October at 10am in St Felim’s.

Finsl Score: Lough Allen College 9:2 Ballinamore CS 4:5

Captain: Anya Stringer

Scorers: Aisling Redican 2:1, Laura Maguire 0:1, Ellie Mahon 0:1, Tara Galligan Maguire 1:1, Kelly Beirne 0:1, Claire Mc Weeney 1:0
