2A Green Schools Update-Water Survey Results

Water survey results October 2012

In a survey of all pupils in Meanscoil Fatima (170 pupils) the following results occurred.

  1. 97% of pupils had a shower while only 3% took a bath.
  2. 17% of pupils took a shower for less than 5 minutes
  3. 53% of pupils take showers for less than 10 minutes while 47% take showers for 10 minutes or longer.
  4. 87% of pupils only put on the dishwasher when full.
  5. 79% of pupils don’t fill the kettle when they want one cup of tea.
  6. 74% of pupils leave the tap running  when brushing their teeth.
  7. 72% of pupils leave the tap running when doing the dishes.
  8. 14% of households collect rainwater for cleaning and toilets in their houses.
  9. 69% of households don’t check for leaks regularly.
  10.  52% of households use the washing machine only when full.
  11.  52% of households didn’t have a water meter. 
  12.  93% of households don’t have water containers in their cisterns to conserve water after each flush.
  13.  71% of households have their water pipes insulated.
  14.  48% of people used a hose pipe to wash their cars at home.
  15. 75% of households didn’t have a special shower fitting that conserves water usage.
  16. 54% of people visit the toilets 3 times or less during school, 43% visit the toilet between 4-6 times.
  17. 54% of pupils thought that censor taps would be best for water conservation in our school.
  18. 87% of pupils sad they would be prepared to help reduce water usage in school and at home.
