Our 1st and 2nd year boys were playing Mohill and Lough Allen College today in the Post Primary Schools basketball competition.
1st years beat Lough Allen
2nd years beat Lough Allen and lost by 2 baskets to Mohill Community College.
Well done to both teams, pictured here with Coach Inaki Codina, who now move on to the next stage of the competition.
Our u-16 girls competed in the final of the PPS North west Schools B League in Sligo on Thursday 28th November.
They lost to a stronger team from Abbey Vocational School, Donegal. Thanks to Inaki from Blazers basketball Club for all his training with all the school teams.
Well done to our 1st year girls Basketball team who qualified for an All-Ireland Semifinal, which will be held in the National Basketball Arena next Friday, 6th May.
Last Saturday in Ballinamore, the girls played 3 matches to qualify, having previously won the North West regional competition.
In their first match, the girls overcame St Louis, Carrickmacross on a scoreline of 36-19. Next up was Rathdown, Dublin. This was a tight match and could have gone either way but Ballinamore held out to win 35 to 27. The Ballinamore girls’ fitness and team spirit helped them to get across the line.
Finally the girls played Presentation College, Wexford and were once again victorious, this time on a scoreline of 22-8.
An enjoyable day of basketball for all involved.
Wishing the best of luck to our first year girls basketball team who are playing in the All-Ireland playoffs tomorrow. There are 16 teams left in the competition, with 4 pools of 4. One team will qualify for the All-Ireland semifinal from each pool. We are hosting one of the pools and our girls will play three other teams in Ballinamore Sports Complex tomorrow. We play St Louis, Carrickmacross at 9.30am; Rathdown CS at 1.45pm; and Pres Wexford at 4.40pm. Please come along and support our girls.
Congratulations to our first year girls basketball team who were crowned Connacht B champions recently. Well done girls!
The Cadette girls team (U16) travelled to Mohill on 13th January to compete in their Division Finals competition.
In the first match of the day we played Drumshanbo VS and had a comfortable win. This qualified us for a final later in the day against Carrigallen VS who beat Mercy Roscommon in their Semi final.
Later in the afternoon after the girls had supervised the ‘table’ for two Senior games we took on Carrigallen in the final. A very tight first two quarters saw both sides tit for tat until the last couple of minutes of the second quarter when Ballinamore pulled ahead by two baskets. Our final possession of the first half Ciara McGoldrick took the ball down the court with 4 seconds remaining on the clock. With only a second left and having just passed the halfway line Ciara decided to have a shot and to the delight of everyone watching she scored a three pointer! An amazing shot that also put us 7 points up going into the half time break.
In the third and fourth quarters Ballinamore continued to pull away from Carrigallen with the final score ending up at 36 to 14.
Congrats to the girls who all played fantastic in what was a great team effort with all the girls getting great experience on the day.
Thanks to Blazers Basketball club for training and coaching the team and wishing them luck in their upcoming club games.
