Cycle Against Suicide

After months of preparations the day finally arrived. On Thursday 30th April we hosted The Cycle Against Suicide for a lunchtime stop.

Cycling from Enniskillan to Longford, 500 hundred cyclists and 100 support staff; joined by 60 students and staff from our school, arrived to a wonderful welcome at Ballinamore CS. An enthusiastic guard of honour cheered the cyclist on. In the canteen the cyclists were provided with a wonderful array of sandwiches, baked good, drinks, warm hospitality and some traditional Irish music.

Afterwards, in our main hall, students, staff, parents and cyclists gathered for a mental health event. Over twelve mental health organisations were present on the day. There was music and entertainment. Jim Breen, led a series of inspirational talks. Breifne Early and Aoibheann McCaul took time off their bikes to share their story and reason for supporting the cycle.

Finally, as the sea of orange exited our school, once again Ballinamore CS showed their support for the team of cyclists and that we want to help spread the message:

It’s Ok Not to Feel Ok; and It’s Ok to Ask for Help.
