Engineers Week

As part of Engineers week the 5th year construction studies and engineering class attended a demonstration by Waterways Ireland at lock 6 in Ballinamore. The students were shown how the locks are operated and other works carried out by Waterways Ireland. Engineers week gets companies to volunteer their time all over the country to show the importance of all types of engineering.

Hosting of Cycle Against Suicide

Ballinamore Community School to host Mental Health Event for Cycle Against Suicide

Cycle AgainstSuicide

10,000 cyclists, 1,400 kms, 2 weeks, ONE goal –

It’s ok not to feel ok; and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help

Ballinamore Community School is pleased to be named as Anchor School for Cycle Against Suicide. The Cycle starts in Belfast on Monday, 27th April and covers the entire island of Ireland for two weeks before finishing in Dublin on Sunday, May 10th.

Ballinamore Community School will welcome around 1,000 expected cyclists on Thursday the 30th April and will host the lunchtime stop. Ballinamore Community School together with Cycle Against Suicide will organise a mental health event comprising of presentations, videos, music, celebrity speakers and an exhibition of local mental health services during the stop.

Our school is delighted to host this important event and welcome the cyclists to Ballinamore. The impact of this type of activity is powerful and far reaching, not just in our school, but also in the community at large. It gets the conversation around mental health going in the community and shows the support services that are available to those that need them. It’s about encouraging people to know it’s absolutely ok to ask for help.

Chef Adrian Cookery Demo

Chef Adrian Cookery Demo from Robert O’Reilly on Vimeo.

We were delighted to welcome back past student Adrian Martin who gave a cookery demonstration to students and teachers as part of a home economics promo. Adrian is the ambassador for The Craft Butchers Association of Ireland and has regular slots on TV3’s Late Lunch Live & RTE’s Today Show amongst other appearances. Adrian gave great tips about getting the best value when buying meat and cooked a delicious chicken curry with ‘courgette’ spaghetti and some beef tacos with salsa. The food looked amazing and was of course devoured once the tastings began.
