TY BUILD A BANK OFFICIAL OPENING

TyBank2015_013

The TY Business Class Build a Bank was officially opened today by Donal Wrynn.  Donal is a past pupil of Ballinamore Community School, and has studied Accounting & Finance in DCU.  He is currently studying for a Masters in Finance, and was able to give the Students lots of advice on running their Bank.

The TY Students open and run the Bank every Friday during the morning break, with the help of AIB Student Officer Phil Flynn and their Business Teacher, Mrs Moran.  All students in the School can open an account with the Bank, and are encouraged to become regular savers.

The TYs also held a Bake Sale in conjunction with the Bank Opening.  They prepared and cooked all the food themselves.  The proceeds from their Bake Sale will be donated to a project in the local community.

The TY’s would like to thank Donal for taking time out to help them launch their Bank this morning.

Catholic Schools Week

The theme of Catholic Schools Week 2015 is Catholic Schools: Called to Serve.

This call comes from Christ himself.

All Christians are called to serve their brothers and sisters. This means helping them to stand up and walk on their own, exorcising their fear of the unknown and expanding their minds through education. It entails feeding them when they are too weak to feed themselves, opening their eyes to the reality of life, challenging them to let go of hurts and prejudice, and liberating those who are unjustly oppressed. It involves introducing them to ever-greater horizons of transcendence and beauty.

(Catholic Schools Week Post Primary Resources – English)

Throughout this week we will celebrate our school’s ethos and history in many different ways.

T.Y students were busy today creating a Sacred Space. They also made Prayer Cards for exam students.

Senior Boys beat Ballinrobe CS

The preliminary round of the Connacht senior B championship took place on Wednesday last 21st January against ballinrobe cc. It ended in a very impressive win on a scoreline of 4 18 to 2 10. Ballinamore started off very slowly in the first half but in the final ten minutes started to produce some excellent football with Conor Gaffney scoring two well worked goals which left Ballinamore leading by 5 points at halftime. In the second half Ballinamore pulled away with quick passing and clinical shooting and goals from Pearce Dolan and Conor Cullen, it was too much for Ballinrobe to claw back. Ryan O’Rourke was very effective in the forward line scoring 7pts and was well supported by Conor Gaffney and Bhrefnie McKiernan. Ballinamore CS are now into the Connacht Q final against Mountbellew in two weeks time.

Well done to Ms. Cooney!

Congrats to Ms Cooney who worked as co author on the publication. Ms Cooney also completed a two year term as President of ATHE (Association of Teachers of Home Economics) on a national scale.

Prayer

God of all peoples; Give us strength and courage to go through Samaria to meet our brothers and sisters from other churches. Allow us to go with an open heart so we may learn from each other. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
