1st Year Jesse Tree Activity

DSCF4579DSCF4577DSCF4580As part of their study on Judaism Ms. Cooney’s 1st year religion classes made a Jesse Tree which is like the family tree of Jesus. We use the tree to remind us of God’s promise. Students made biblical decorations for the tree and then had a cermony to hang them onto the tree.

St. Vincent De Paul Christmas Food Appeal 2013

This year, as part of a social awarenss project TY studnets linked up with St. Vincent De Paul in Ballinamore.

They decided to help local families through a food collection. Some weeks ago TY students supported and helped with a food collection in Tesco. With Tesco staff, students got a great response from the people of Ballinamore. All foods received were used to help local families.

In more recent weeks TY students did a food collection with our senior students. All TY, 5th & 6th yr students were asked to donate one or two food items to help local families. Again there was a great response to this. St. Vincent de Paul in Ballinamore are currently redistributing all items collected.

A sincere thank you, to everyone that supported such a genuine local cause.

TY Social Awareness Week

Dec 9th– 13th 2013

TY students facilitated an awareness week for all students in the School. During the week they focussed on the theme of Caring for My Neighbour.

They did poster displays in Our Lady of Fatima and St. Felims, they taught poverty modules to all the juniors classes and did the St. Vincent De Paul Food Appeal with all seniors.

A busy week for TY! Well done to all students for making it such a successful social awareness campaign.

TY Activities: Butlers Chocolate, Ice-Skating and Marble Arch Caves

Transition year pupils visited Butlers chocolate factory on December 2nd with Ms. Cooney and Ms. Clarke. During their visit, pupils were given a tour of the factory and got to view the different sections of the factory floor, showing exactly how the chocolates are made. Pupils were also taught about how chocolate, made from cocoa beans became so popular throughout the world and how a brand like Butlers has marketed and promoted itself.

After students sampled the delicious Butlers chocolates and decorated their own novelty chocolate gift, we made our way to Dundrum for ice-skating. Great fun was had by all and it certainly got everyone into the festive spirit!

On September 26th, transition year pupils visited the Marble Arch Caves. Pupils got to see the various Karst features up close as well as experiencing an outdoor limestone trail.

Pope John Paul II Awards

The Pope John Paul II Award Ceremony took place in the Diocese of Kilmore on Friday last. Over the last year two of our students successfully completed all of the required tasks, guided by Ms. Camilla Clarke. They both received a Gold Medal Award, which was presented by Bishop Leo O’ Reilly and Mr. Fergal Flanagan (Cavan Footballer).

Alison Sweeney & Caoimhe McCaffrey completed voluntary work with the Rehab Care Centre in Ballinamore and The Scouts. Both students were also active participants in the parish choir in Ballinamore. Over a series of twenty weeks they gave a full commitment to the tasks required. This experience allowed them to have a full and active role in their parish and community and to reach out to others through the Christian message.

Well done girls.
