Healthy Living Week 2013

This fun themed week is in its fourth year running has a combination of physical and metal health related activities. The aim of the week is to highlight the importance of Home Economics and how it is relevant to every student no matter what course they go on to do in college. Some of the physical activities included Volleyball, Rounders and a ‘friendly’ soccer game among the teachers and students. The TY’s made healthy flapjacks to sell to other students and there was a cook off between Mr. Duignan and Mr. Doonan. The Leaving Cert boys took part in a cooking for college module where they learned some quick tasty nutritious meals that they could make when they leave school. Olympian Colin Griffin visited the school to talk to students about how important healthy eating and being aware of nutrients is when training and taking part in events. Mary Holohan from Leitrim MABS spoke also about how to plan and budget when leaving school. Dental Hygenist Siobhan Doran gave a presentation on the importance of healthy teeth and how to care for your teeth and gums. Home economics is such a practical subject with topics that can applied in everyday life. DSCF4147cooking for college
