Pride of place this week goes to the battling senior ladies who grafted a one point victory over Galway side, Dunmore CS in St. Felim’s on 20/11/12.
Despite the appalling weather conditons the previous night the pitch was in remarkable condition and playing with a very strong wind in the first half Ballinamore played some fast direct open football to finish the half with 1:11. .
However despite some excellent defending we did have a few defensive lapses which saw Dunmore score three goals which left them only 5 pts behind and it appeared that the advantage was with the galway side. Ballinamore rallied in the second half knowing victory would see them top the group while defeat would see them in a three way playoff. Dunmore ate into the home sides lead but crucial scores from aileen maguire and carla le guen kept our noses in front of a dunmore side that threw everything at ballinamore . with 5 minutes to go disaster struck the homeside when dunmore scored a goal to leave the them ahead on a score line of 5:7 to 2:14. in a hectic finale good approach work from emma mc govern(first yr) saw the ball passed crossfield to chloe harvey who dispatched to danger woman carla le guen who was hauled down for a penalty with the game in added time. Carla cooly dispatched the penalty to re ord a famous but rare victory over a gallant dunmore team. Final score Ballinamore 3:14 Dunmore CS 5:7. In an all round team performance player of the match was rewarded to Ballinamore’s Amy mc loughlin. Great credit goes to all the girls with excellent shooting from aileen and carlaupfront and great defensive work from captain Danika Doonan,Carla mc keown and Roisin mc Hugh . We look forward to our semi final after Christmas where we hope to reach the senior C final and go one step further than last year and claim the coveted Connacht title. A speedy recovery to injured players amy and aoibheann who was playing very well before her injury with about 10 mins to go.
