History Trip to Strokestown House and Famine Museum

On Tuesday 4th April the Transition year class and the Third year History class visited Strokestown House and Famine Museum.

The trip coincided with life in Rural Ireland before and after the Famine for third years, while the Transition year class were completing a school project on the lives of the Pakenham-Mahon family, who once lived there.

We got a very informative guided tour of the Famine Museum as well as Strokestown House, which gave students a flavour of life from the tenant’s as well as the landlord’s perspectives.

Following lunch, we had a walk around the splendid Gardens and Woodland areas, also part of the Estate before returning back to school.

Students found the trip useful and enjoyable and relevant to their studies.
