Below is a snapshot of some of the things we have been doing, starting with our Official Opening by Kerry GAA Legend Colm Cooper in November.  After opening our Bank Colm had a training session with our Senior Boys & Girls Team.  Thanks Colm for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit us.

Our Bank team visited the AIB LAB (Learn About Banking) in Dundrum, Dublin in January with their Business Teacher Mrs Moran.  We travelled with the Bank Team from Carrigallen Vocational School and the Royal School in Cavan.  We would like to thank Ciara and the AIB for arranging this visit.

Our School had a visit from Two Roses, our own Leitrim Rose Sinead Flynn, and the Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan, and both stopped by to have a chat with our Bank Team.  Sinead & Elysha will be travelling to Belarus in February, and our Bank Team have donated €100 to Sinead as part of her fundraising for this visit.

Our TY Bank members brought a group of First Year Students down to visit the local AIB Branch and teach them about Banking.  Again, thanks to Ciara for a very informative visit learning how to operate ATM machines, make lodgements etc.

Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition

srtgh

TY students John and Niall are being interviewed today in Portlaoise for the next round of the Irish Certified Irish Angus Beef School’s competition to win five Aberdeen Angus calves which they will rear to slaughter age, keeping all residual profits.

The first stage of the competition was to submit a 3 minute video clip on:

  • Introduction of team and school
  • Role of AG science department in school
  • Kepak
  • ABP
  • Irish Angus producers group
  • Plans and promotions

The aim of the competition is to encourage young second level students to become involved to a greater extent in their families’ farms and to gain an understanding as to how beef produced on those family farms is marketed in a manner that represents the care and attention that has gone into the production and processing of their animals, through to a satisfied end consumer. The competition is organised by Kepak, ABP meats, and the Angus Producers group.

John and Niall will be interviewed today by representatives from ABP, Kepak, the Angus Producers group as well as an Agricultural Science teacher.

Visit of Two Roses

Sinéad Flynn, 2015 Leitrim Rose and past pupil recently visited our school with the current Rose of Tralee Elysha Brennan. They both spoke about their fundraising work. Sinéad is travelling to Chernobyl at the end of February to work with the Belarus Orphanage Project.
