The 1st year girls attended Leitrim Sports Partnership’s ‘Girls Active Festival’ in Drumshanbo on Tuesday 8th April. They had completed 10 weeks after school every Wednesday engaging in a variety of activities and the festival in Drumshanbo was a celebration day where they received their Certificates of Completion which they will put in their JCPA Cert at the end of Junior Cycle. Four second years who kept on the programme this year also attended on the day. They all participated in a variety of activities on the day such as Parkour, Cycling along the Blueway, Football, Self Defence and Zumba. Well done girls.
One of our main areas of focus for the Health Promoting Schools Programme is to focus on more physical activity. Recently 1st and 2nd year boys participated in a lunch time Peile Tournament over a number of weeks. The TY’s facilitated by Mr. Nolan organised and ran the tournament. Well done to Paul Flynn, Louis Smith, James Gilheany and Ezra McGovern (Team A) who were the winning team from the tournament.
Players from Aughnasheelin GAA and Leitrim U20 participated in cookery classes with Ms. Cooney. They put the sports nutrition theory into practice by cooking a variety of healthy main course meals and snacks. They also received the Recipe for Success booklet designed by St. Angela’s College and the GAA.
