Irish Heart Foundation Presentation

On Monday 2nd October Caoimhe Rudden (Schools Officer for the Irish Heart Foundation) visited the school. She gave a highly informative presentation to 5th and 6th year Home Economics students on the area of heart health and the importance of maintaining a healthy diet and exercise to promote good heart health. We held a fundraiser in school last year (in the last term) where we raised €270 and after the talk we presented the cheque to Caoimhe on behalf of Ballinamore CS.

For this year’s Social Awareness Week, T.Y students linked in with our local St. Vincent de Paul Conference for a Food Appeal.

They created a display around social awareness in the canteen area and throughout the week they invited T.Y, 5th and 6th yr students to donate at least one food item. All students that donated were entered in a raffle on Friday.

A large amount of food items were collected and given to help support local families.

Well done and thank you to everyone that supported this initiative

Results from the jeallybean competition

Monday the 26th was the final day of our recent competition for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin.  Thanks to all who supported this charity and congratulations to the many winners.  The sealed envelope containing the exact number was opened today revealing  973 jellybeans.  The overall winner was Aisling Maguire from first year. Many pupils guessed very close to this figure and have won themselves an Easter egg, namely Niamh Toolan, Ellie Mwamba, Bronagh McGovern, Patrick Sammon, Frances Farry, Thomas Creamer, Peter Reynolds, Karen Freehill, Siobhan McTague, Eadaoin McGourty, Danika Doonan, John Creamer and Mary McGovern.

Can you guess how many jellybeans are in the jar?

How many Jellybeans?

Three guesses cost €1 and all proceeds go to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Student Council members are trying to get as many signatures as possible and are asking for your support. First prize goes to the person who can guess the correct amount and there are other prizes for those who come close. Prizes are generous with the overall winner receiving the jar of jellybeans and there are also numerous prizes of Easter eggs. The winners will be announced this Monday 26th March during lunch time.

So get thinking and put your mathematical skills to work!
